Karen’s art practice is a physical and therapeutic way for her to express her inspiration and to connect with others in community. It reflects her inquisitiveness regarding colour and form. She finds joy in the challenge to re-cycling or re-use and the fun of pushing ideas to new possibilities.
“As long as I can remember my hands and mind were most satisfied when I was making something. It wasn’t until later in life, after completing a course “Introduction to Art,” that I realised I was an artist. I’ve had a life of experience working with paint, paper, found objects, textiles, fibres and more.”
After painting for 15 years Karen discovered she enjoyed working with textiles because they were more tactile, could be sculptural, and gave her more creative freedom. Techniques she employs include wrapping, coiling, weaving, crochet, wet felting and slow stitching.
